Scrap metal has value — pickup instead of a fee
Because metal is recycled and resold, disposal is often cheaper than for other waste — for larger quantities pickup is sometimes even free. For single small items a call-out flat fee is more likely. Whether a buy-back, i.e. a payment, is possible depends on quantity, metal type and the daily price — it cannot be promised across the board.
Which metals are collected
Iron and steel (radiators, beams, railings), but also more valuable non-ferrous metals like copper, brass and aluminium (cables, pipes, pots). Non-ferrous metals are worth considerably more per kilo. Mixed scrap is sorted — cleanly separated non-ferrous metals bring more, if a buy-back is on the table.
Free pickup from what quantity
As a rough orientation: from a car load or a filled trailer, a free pickup is realistic because the trip pays off for the scrap dealer. For a single item, the collection point is usually the easier route. Describe quantity and metal type in your request — that quickly shows whether a firm comes for free.
Mixed scrap and special metals
Devices with electronics (motors, appliances) are a mix of metal and e-waste and partly run through the SENS system. Batteries and special metals belong separately. A good firm separates this correctly — state what it is about, then the right firm quotes.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I get money for my scrap metal?
- For larger quantities and valuable non-ferrous metals (copper, brass), a buy-back is possible — depending on quantity, metal type and daily price. Payment cannot be promised across the board; the quote shows it.
- From what quantity is pickup free?
- As orientation, from around a car load or a full trailer, because the trip then pays off. For single small items, the collection point is usually easier.
- Are old appliances with metal taken too?
- Yes, but devices with electronics partly run through the e-waste system (SENS). State in your request what it is about so the firm separates correctly.
- What about mixed scrap?
- Mixed scrap is sorted. Cleanly separated non-ferrous metals bring more if a buy-back is on the table — for pure disposal, separating is not mandatory.
- What if no firm comes for small amounts?
- For small amounts the municipal collection point is often the easier and cheaper route. The request costs nothing — you quickly see whether a pickup is worth it.
