Bulky waste & hazardous waste disposal — compare vetted firms
Pickup across Switzerland
Whether furniture, mattress, appliance or construction debris — describe once what needs to go and compare up to 5 quotes from vetted disposal firms. Free and non-binding.

Not every waste fits in the rubbish bag. Bulky, heavy or legally regulated items need the right route — collection point, bulky-waste collection or pickup by a firm. This page shows what is free and what costs, what to watch for with hazardous waste, and how to find the right firm quickly with Offerio.
What counts as bulky waste — and what does not
Bulky waste is anything too big for the normal rubbish bag: furniture, mattresses, carpets, larger items. It does not include electrical appliances (their own return system), construction waste (separate disposal) and hazardous waste like paint or batteries. Many municipalities offer bulky-waste collection with a sticker — handy, but tied to dates. Those who want to dispose flexibly and without their own vehicle have it picked up.
Free or chargeable? The overview
Much can be disposed of cheaply or free in Switzerland if you transport it yourself. Pickup from your flat costs — but you carry nothing. Guide figures 2026, excl. VAT 8.1%:
| Item | Self / free-to-cheap | Pickup by firm |
|---|---|---|
| Appliances | Free return (SENS/SWICO) | CHF 60–140 from flat |
| Furniture & sofa | Collection point / charity (sellable) | CHF 60–150 per item |
| Mattress | Collection point (small fee) | CHF 40–90 per item |
| Scrap metal | Collection point / free by quantity | small amounts: flat fee |
| Construction waste | — | Skip CHF 300–700 |
Guide figures, not a quote — the binding price is set after a short description or photo.
What disposal costs
The price depends on quantity, weight, floor (lift?) and material type. Several items at once are considerably cheaper per item than single pickups — it pays to bundle. Hazardous waste and heavy large appliances drive the price up, usable furniture lowers it via value offsetting. The price becomes binding after inspection; for smaller amounts a photo quote is often enough.
Hazardous waste and legal duties
Not everything may go in the same container. These three categories have their own rules in Switzerland:
E-waste (VREG)
Electrical appliances can be returned free of charge, financed via the advance recycling fee. SENS eRecycling and SWICO organise the system.
Cooling appliances & CFCs
Fridges and freezers contain refrigerant that must be extracted properly — they cannot simply be scrapped.
Hazardous waste
Paint, varnish, batteries, waste oil and chemicals belong at a collection point or with a specialist firm, never in household waste.

Clearance or disposal?
If it is about individual items, you are in the right place. If instead a whole flat or house is to be emptied — including furniture, cellar and final cleaning — that is a clearance.
Whole flat/house? Go to clearance →Frequently asked questions about disposal
- What does disposal cost in Switzerland?
- It depends on the item. Appliances are free to return on self-delivery; a pickup from your flat sits, depending on the item, at a guide figure of CHF 40–150 per item (excl. VAT 8.1%). Construction waste runs via a skip (CHF 300–700).
- What can I dispose of for free?
- Appliances on return in-store (SENS/SWICO), sellable furniture via a charity shop and scrap metal from a larger quantity are often free. The condition is usually that you transport it yourself.
- When is pickup by a firm worth it?
- As soon as it is heavy, bulky, plentiful or without a lift — or if there is no vehicle. You then pay for transport and carrying, not for the disposal itself.
- Where do paint, batteries and chemicals go?
- That is hazardous waste and belongs at a collection point or with a specialist firm. During a clearance or disposal, the firm can take the hazardous waste away properly.
- Does a firm take individual items too?
- Yes, but single pickups are more expensive per item. Bundle several items to lower the price per item.
- How quickly do I get quotes?
- You describe the request in a few minutes and usually receive up to five quotes from vetted firms in your region within a short time.
